Jen Frost Smith

My work is about color, texture, rhythm and anxiety. I’m impulsive and create impulsively, using my formal facilities to build compositions infused with emotion. Often the content of my work is a play of tension between darker moments of the art-making process, self-critique and humor. I use everyday materials in my installations, recontextualizing mundane objects & fashioning uncomfortable pairings. My anxiety pushes me to create and express the energies inside and around me, often manifesting into abstract forms or patterns. I want the presence of my gesture to be aggressively present, to butt into a situation and linger. I am influenced by movement and noise at all hours. I delight in glitches and awkward moments.
